Our brackets, screen doors and gates are constructed from solid sheets of dense, paint grade, expanded foam PVC with UV inhibitors and a matte finish. This material has many of the qualities of wood and can be modified and installed with conventional woodworking tools. It has the look and feel of smooth, painted wood, but is superior to wood in many ways — particularly for use outdoors.

Some of the benefits of this material are:

No maintenance — requires no sealing or painting
Will not rot, crack, splinter or buckle
Will not absorb moisture
Not affected by termites or other insects
Chemical resistant
Fire retardant
Eco-friendly and completely recyclable

In addition, since our products are cut out of a single, solid piece of material, there are no joints to ever weaken or come apart. This solid sheet construction also allows a much greater range of design possibilities because we are not limited by the width of available wood or the direction of the wood grain.

Although this product requires no painting, it has a surface that is paint-ready. However, for outdoor use, the manufacturer recommends only light colors. Here’s a quote from their Usage and Fabrications Guidelines:

"For outdoor use, to minimize heat build up and possible deflection, pastel colors rather than darker colors, are recommended. Painting the entire surface with dark colors is not advised."
